What is a Regedit Cleaner?

Article By: Editor | Topic: Registry Repair & Cleaner

You’ve probably been sifting through search engines, forums and blogs and you stumbled upon the phrase “Regedit Cleaner”. Maybe you suspect that it’s something that would be useful for you to improve your PCs performance, but you don’t really know what this application is or even what it does.  Well, we’ll try to set the record straight for you today.

Regedit - what it is?

Regedit is the name of the registry editor that is installed on Windows operating systems. In simple terms, Regedit allows PC users to perform what is tantamount to brain surgery on their computers; like brain surgery - tweaking, editing or in any way manually manipulating the Windows registry is precariously delicate. The inherent dangers of manual registry manipulation aside, Regedit is the interface that allows any PC user to see into and manage their Windows registry.

If you’re so inclined and you have a taste for danger, you can access Regedit by:

  • Clicking your Windows start button
  • Clicking on Run
  • Typing in regedit
  • Clicking Ok

However, if you need to clean your Windows registry, this is not the recommend way to do so.

Is there a program called Regedit Cleaner?

In all likelihood, probably not; Regedit is the name of a Windows application, and while a program can purport to be a “regedit cleaner”, for all intents and purposes - Regedit is the built-in registry editor on Windows computers.

How can I clean my registry, then?

Registry cleaning utilities are the recommended way to clean your computer’s registry - only trained professionals should manually edit the Windows registry because too much is at stake; one wrong push of a button within your Windows registry can literally render your computer useless, but fortunately registry cleaning tools have the process down pat so that the average computer user can benefit from a thorough cleaning without risking their computer during the cleaning process.

To bring the point home - there is no such thing as a Regedit Cleaner, but there are registry cleaners, and that’s what you should be using to optimize and repair your PCs registry-related problems.
